Volunteer Requirements

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Swedish Covenant Health!

As a volunteer you will assist in providing our patients with a safe, welcoming and friendly environment.
To guarantee the best care possible, all applicants must:

Interview

All volunteers must schedule and attend an interview to determine volunteer placement.

Background Check

To ensure the safety of our patients, volunteers are held to the same standards as our staff. Background checks are conducted on all volunteers 18 years or older. All volunteers deposit a $35 cash fee for this process. This fee is reimbursed after the volunteer successfully completes 100 hours of service.

Recommendation and Parent Permission Letters

High school volunteers younger than 18 years old are required to provide two recommendation letters from teachers or current employers. Students also need a signed parental consent form giving them permission to volunteer. Students can request a letter verifying the hours they volunteered once they have completed the volunteer requirements.

Health Clearance

Before you begin, all volunteers must be cleared through the Employee Health Department.  Volunteers must bring their immunization record to the Employee Health Department and receive two TB tests (this is a four-step process). Volunteers under 18 must provide a signed parental consent form to the Employee Health Department, giving them permission for health testing.

Attend Hospital Orientation

The Volunteer Resources Department holds six orientations yearly. Please contact us for the next orientation date. Arrangements can also be made for adults 18 years of age or older to attend employee orientation. To attend employee orientation, you must first complete your volunteer interview and health screening.

Quizzes/Training

All new volunteers must pass the department skill validation quiz. The hospital orientation and the volunteer handbook will provide all the information you need to successfully complete this quiz. As part of the training process, additional quizzes may be given for certain areas of placement.

Dress Code

All volunteers are required to dress professionally. Volunteers are not to wear blue jeans, shorts or open-toe shoes. We provide a volunteer jacket and an ID that must be worn at all times. There is a $20 cash deposit for the jacket and ID. The deposit will be returned in exchange for the jacket and ID on the last day of volunteering.

Volunteers need to be available for a couple of hours during business hours (Monday – Friday) for interviewing, health testing, getting their ID Badge and training.
