Volunteer Application Process and Requirements
As a volunteer you will assist with providing a safe, welcoming and friendly environment to our employees, patients, and guests.

Interview
Once your application has been accepted, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment for an interview with a representative of the Volunteer Resources Department.
Background Check (18 Year and Older)
To ensure the safety of our patients, volunteers are held to the same standards as our staff. Background checks are conducted on all volunteers 18 years or older. Background checks take approximately 3- 4 business days to process.
Recommendation and Parent Permission Letters (Under 18 Years Old, On Hold at This Time)
High school volunteers (students) younger than 18 years are required to provide one reference from teachers or current employers. Students also need a signed parental/guardian consent form giving them permission to volunteer. Both forms are provided at your interview.
Health Clearance
Once you have interviewed and have been accepted as a volunteer, the next step is to make an appointment with Employee Health. Employee Health is open Monday – Friday, 7:30 – 4:00.
Volunteers must complete the following requirements:
- Complete a health history survey
- UDS (urine drug screen) for volunteers doing patient contact activities
- Complete a blood test for TB Quant, Hepatitis B titers and other immunization levels if needed
- Submit a copy of your immunization record including: Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), and Chicken Pox (Varicella)
- Be fully vaccinated for Covid – 19 (submit original card, employee health will make a copy
- Submit a copy of your seasonal flu vaccine
Required tests and vaccinations are available to volunteers at Swedish Hospital free of charge.
Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent when they go to Employee Health and to the lab. The lab has evening and Saturday hours; however, you must have your parent/guardian with you.
Hospital Orientation and Training
Once you have been accepted as a volunteer, you must complete hospital orientation. You will be given information to review about the hospital. As part of the training process there is a quiz you will need to complete and pass. Additional quizzes and training may be arranged for certain areas of the hospital.
Dress Code
All volunteers are required to dress professionally (work casual). You must wear a volunteer jacket and an ID badge at all times
