Margarita Talks About the Importance of Communication in Facing a Difficult Diagnosis

Margarita Faces of Awareness

I came for a routine mammogram on March 10, 2018 at the Jack and Mayora Rosenberg Women’s Health Center at Swedish Hospital.  My mammogram came back abnormal. After being called back for an ultrasound, I had to get a breast biopsy performed the same day.  My results were in within a few days positive for malignancy.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on April 11, 2018.  My journey began then. Linda Rowan has been very consistent with navigating my care and keeping me informed. On the day of my surgery, seeing her and having her provide me with the comforting pillow was meaningful to me.

My surgery was done with Dr. Maria Osipova, who I am very thankful for. Even though I received the worst news one could imagine, having a team behind me at the Women’s Health Center has made this experience much more pleasant and has kept me informed. I started radiation therapy on August 6, and everything is going well.

I want to give a special thank you to Linda Rowan who has always been knowledgeable, professional and by my side. Thank you to Susy Rodriguez who has helped answer my questions in my own language. I must mention that absolutely everyone at the Jack and Mayora Rosenberg Women's Health Center has been professional, caring and informative since day one.
