Below are answers to frequently asked questions about our post-acute services. 


    When and why do patients choose post-acute care? 

    Patients who no longer require acute hospital care, but need inpatient services benefit from post-acute care such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, daily nursing interventions and physician oversight.

    Conditions treated include:

    • Neurological disorders
    • IV therapy
    • Generalized deconditioning
    • Post-surgical care
    • Orthopedic impairments

    How much therapy will i recieve each day? 

    Your care team specifically tailors a treatment plan to you. Patients generally receive anywhere from two to three hours of rehabilitation per day, at least five days a week. your length of stay is individually based on your progress and plan of care. 

    What is a physiatrist?

    A physiatrist is a medical doctor or doctor of osteopathic medicine who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation (also called PM&R physicians). Physiatrists diagnose and treat acute pain and chronic pain and specialize in a wide variety of nonsurgical treatments for the musculoskeletal system. Physiatrists also look at patients holistically to restore function, overcome physical limitations and prevent impairment. 

    What if I need emergency or specialty medical care?

    Our units are located within Swedish Hospital, which offers 50+ academic-level medical specialties, including Emergency Department physicians. 

    Can family members visit me during my stay? How involved can family be? 

    Yes. We encourage family members and friends to visit. Throughout your stay, our interdisciplinary team evaluates all aspects of your care. We educate and provide family training so they will be prepared to help you after you leave the hospital. 

    What type of insurance do you accept? 

    We accept a variety of private insurance plans and Medicare. your post-acute care coordinator can assist you with questions about financial coverage. Please call 773-569-1396 for assistance.
