Nearly one in eight people over 75 have aortic stenosis (AS), a potentially life-threatening condition that can cause the valves of the heart to malfunction. Individuals with AS may or may not experience symptoms, including:
• Chest pain or tightness
• Faintness, shortness of breath or fatigue with exertion
• Heart palpitations—sensations of a rapid, fluttering heartbeat—or murmur
