What is a Hyperbaric Chamber?
Swedish Hospital offers individual state-of-the-art hyperbaric chambers with your comfort in mind. The chambers are transparent plastic tubes with a flat surface for patients to lie on their back while they watch TV, listen to music or engage in another leisurely activity to help pass the time.
During treatment, the chambers create air pressure that is three times that of the natural atmosphere, allowing patients to breathe in pure oxygen.
What to Expect
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be performed as an outpatient in the Wound Care and Limb Preservation Center. As the chamber pressurizes, patients may experience some pressure in their ears and sinuses similar to a plane, which can be managed using de-pressurizing techniques such as yawning.
Treatment typically lasts two hours. A typical course of therapy is 10 to 60 daily treatments, depending on the patient’s response.
Contact Us
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is covered by most major insurance (including Medicare) for many conditions. In cases in which treatment is not covered by insurance, we offer a discounted cash option.
