More than 20 Zebra Technologies employees visited Swedish Covenant Hospital to donate patient care packages and learn about the hospital’s Violence Prevention Program. The employees recently volunteered to purchase and assemble critical items needed by victims of domestic violence, human trafficking and sexual assault, including clothing, toiletries and pre-paid cell phones which were presented to the hospital.
“These care packages enable us to support victims of abuse when they are most vulnerable,” said Anthony Guaccio, President and CEO of Swedish Covenant Hospital. “We greatly value this generous donation and the ongoing support of Zebra Technologies.”

The donated duffel bags contain sweatpants, sweatshirts, socks, underwear, toiletry kits, water bottles, notebooks/pens and Verizon prepaid cellphones (for patients to get service via the Hope Line program). The Violence Prevention Program was created to strengthen Swedish Covenant Hospital’s capacity to identify and respond to patients who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. Since the program’s inception in 2015, over 700 clinicians have been trained to recognize when a patient may be experiencing abuse and to respond in ways that increase safety, reduce isolation and connect survivors with ongoing support in the community.
“Healthcare providers are in a unique position to identify and provide compassionate care to victims of violence,” said Kate Lawler, Director of Swedish Covenant Hospital’s Violence Prevention Program. “The physical and psychological consequences of violence often lead victims to seek care from a healthcare provider. In some cases, a healthcare provider may be the only person able to speak with the victim alone. The care packages are a gesture of support and compassion at what is often a turning point in a patient’s journey.”
“We are happy to accept this donation and it’s special to have one of the companies represented on the Swedish Covenant Board to extend their support,” said Jennifer Tscherney, Executive Director of Swedish Covenant Hospital Foundation. “We are eager to invite companies in our community to support the hospital in a variety of ways from lunch and learn sessions to event sponsorships and workplace giving programs.”
