SCH staff and several community organizations gathered in the Galter Medical Pavilion on October 2 to decorate a tree and hand out purple lapel ribbons—a symbol of the anti-domestic violence movement. The purple ribbons will remain on the tree throughout October as a powerful public message that SCH is committed to building a community free of abuse.
Health care providers play a critical role in increasing patient safety and wellness; reducing isolation, shame and fear and connecting victims to community resources and services. SCH’s Violence Prevention program partners with Apna Ghar, Between Friends, Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network and KAN-WIN to train providers; enhance violence screening, response and referral practices and provide resources to patients who disclose they are in a violent relationship.
