What is your approach to midwifery care?
As a midwife, I believe in being a partner to a woman’s individualized care by giving her complete and accurate information so she can make informed health care decisions. I listen carefully to her requests, avoid using interventions unnecessarily, and am always present for support. I also stay current on medical literature in order to provide the safest care to women and their babies.
Is midwifery care for women who want to avoid all pain medication?
Everyone has a different birth plan, and we do not encourage or discourage pain medication. I just want the women I see to leave feeling happy with their experience. No matter your chosen birth experience, we have a very active presence with you throughout labor and delivery to help you stay comfortable. In fact, I believe we have such a low epidural rate (30%) because we stay at the bedside giving reassurance.
Do you support VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean)?
Yes: my main clinical interest is in helping women having a vaginal birth after Cesarean (VBAC). Our VBAC success rate is very high (between 60-80%), and our wireless monitoring technology in the birthing center at Swedish Covenant allows you to move around, change positions, and use the labor tub. We are very supportive and encouraging to women seeking VBAC.
Do you provide well-woman care?
Yes--there is more to us than just delivering babies. Women are always excited when I tell them that after their pregnancy, they can still come see us for annual exams, pap smears, and birth control. I find that often as women, we put everyone else in our lives before ourselves. I want to help my clients take care of themselves and focus on their own well-being in every stage of life, so they can stay healthy physically and emotionally.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
My husband and young son keep me busy outside of work! When I do have time to myself, I enjoy running and trying new restaurants in Chicago. I love to travel and am trying to make my way around the world, but Chicago always seems like a great place to come home to.
