About
Visits may be scheduled as in-office appointments or as remote visits via video. If you schedule a telehealth appointment, you will receive a confirmation call, instructions and a video link prior to your appointment.
What are your clinical interests?
My goal as a midwife is to provide holistic care for women in all stages of life. Helping women with family planning and contraception is a special interest of mine, because I believe that different forms of contraception will be “right” for you at different points in your life. I especially enjoy educating women about diaphragms and IUDs.
How do you help women have a positive birthing experience?
Many of the women we work with want a natural birth, and we help them do that by encouraging laboring methods such as position changes or hydrotherapy. We are able to provide intermittent monitoring for our unmedicated patients, which provides a lot of freedom of movement. And even if a woman requires continuous monitoring, we have a telemetry unit that allows us to monitor her remotely so that she can get up and move around. I do everything I can to follow my patients’ birth plans. A lot of women will also hire private doulas to provide extra support, and we fully support that. We work closely with the Chicago Volunteer Doulas, which is a fantastic resource.
What is your practice philosophy?
Pregnancy is sometimes treated like an illness or something you just have to get through, but it’s such a normal and beautiful part of a woman’s life cycle. As a midwife, I try to always communicate this philosophy. Fortunately, we are able to give patients all the labor support they need for childbirth to be an amazing experience.
What experiences have shaped the way you practice as a midwife?
My own labor didn’t go the way I expected, and I had to revise my birth plan to reflect my experience. It made me understand the need for flexibility during childbirth in a new way, and gave me a new perspective on the changeability of birth plans. It really helped me have a deeper empathy with my patients who go through the same experience.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I have a beautiful daughter, and I love hanging out with my family, traveling, and cooking. I also enjoy running--although not quite as much as the other midwives!
