Inpatient Stroke Care and Rehabilitation
As a Primary Stroke Center, Swedish Covenant Hospital is certified by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program. This certification signifies our commitment to delivering the best available stroke treatments, including personalized inpatient care and rehabilitation.
We tailor treatments to meet your unique needs, because no two patients experience stroke in the same way. As your recovery progresses, we help you regain skills you may have lost, so you can live your best life.
Stroke Care at Swedish Covenant Hospital: Why Choose Us?
Our program gives you access to a broad range of stroke specialists, including board-certified neurologists, therapists, speech pathologists and rehabilitation physicians, all under one roof. Having all of these experts in one location allows us to adapt care and treatments to meet your changing needs.
Highlights of inpatient stroke care and rehabilitation include:
The Latest Therapy Technologies
Our program is the first in Chicago to offer the Ekso GT, a new robot-assisted support device, in the clinical inpatient setting. Ekso GT makes it possible for patients whose legs have been effected by stroke to start walking earlier in the recovery process.
Lowering Your Risk of Complications
If you are having trouble breathing because of the stroke or need surgery, you may need to stay in our intensive care unit (ICU) until you are medically stable. The ICU uses special monitors to detect the slightest change in condition so we can act quickly to protect you from complications.
Therapists Who Specialize in Stroke Recovery
Our team includes board-certified specialists in rehabilitation. Our depth of expertise in neurology, geriatrics, cardiopulmonary and orthopedics helps you achieve the best possible results as you recover from your stroke. Your rehabilitation starts with a detailed evaluation so we can customize your rehabilitation plan to meet your unique needs. Find out more about rehabilitation services.
Your safety is at the center of everything we do. We help you avoid falls with special technology that lets us know when you are out of bed. We also teach you and your loved ones safety techniques for when you’re healthy enough to be up and about.
Therapists, nurses and doctors are in regular communication to coordinate small details, such as your personal goals and preferences, to keep your recovery moving forward. We’re always thinking ahead, which is why we also share important information with your therapists in our outpatient neurological program.
