About Us

Our revolutionary laboratory provides physicians with a 12 to 24-hour turnaround time on most routine procedures. The laboratory uses continuous flow processing (CFP), which helps to provide rapid, accurate results on most routine procedures. The department is accredited with the College of American Pathologists and fully approved by Medicare and Medicaid.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine offers laboratory analysis and patient testing in the areas of surgical pathology, autopsy, cytopathology, FNA assists, chemistry, immunology, hematology, coagulation, toxicology, urinalysis, microbiology and transfusion medicine. Ninety-seven percent of physician and hospital requests are performed right here at Swedish Covenant Hospital.

After you receive a referral from your physician, you will receive instructions on how to present for testing. Whatever your needs, we take care to make you feel comfortable while offering you the latest, most advanced diagnostic procedures available, including:

    Vein Illuminators

Nursing staff and lab phlebotomists utilize revolutionary “vein illuminators” funded by Swedish Covenant Hospital Foundation. Utilizing these state-of-the-art devices allows medical professionals to view and access patient’s veins with extreme accuracy, assisting them in starting I.V.s and obtaining blood while easing discomfort for patients.

Matrix-assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (MADI TOF MS)

This revolutionary micro-equipment allows lab staff to identify the bacteria causing blood infections 18-24 hours sooner than traditional methods and identifies bacteria from any culture within eight hours of growth 90% of the time. The ability to accurately diagnose bacteria at an accelerated pace allows patients to receive treatment and begin their recovery sooner.
