President and Chief Executive Officer
Anthony is an accomplished senior-level hospital executive with 30 years of proven innovative health care management experience. In addition to his responsibilities at Swedish Hospital, Anthony is a Board Member of Upper Midwest VHA, a Chairman of the Economic Steering Committee at Upper Midwest VHA and Chairman of the Board of Captis, a $3 billion, 200-hospital group purchasing organization.
Anthony received a Master’s Degree in Business from North Park University. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management from Eastern Illinois University.
Chief Operating Officer
Jonathan began working at Galter LifeCenter in 1999 before starting at Swedish Hospital in 2006. During this time, he provided the organization with excellent leadership in managing a variety of business units, personnel and projects.
Jonathan has more than 15 years of experience in operations, financial management, project management and strategic planning. He completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Dartmouth College and received his MBA in finance and economics at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
Chief Financial Officer
Tom joined Swedish Hospital in 2013 as Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Garvey previously served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago. Mr. Garvey has 37 years of health care financial experience, 25 of which were spent as Chief Financial Officer for not-for-profit hospitals, for-profit hospitals and multi-hospital systems located in Chicago.
Previous experience includes the Health Care Consulting Group of Deloitte and Touche and the health care audit staff for Ernst & Young. His hospital experience includes Vice President of Finance positions at Lincoln West Hospital in Chicago, an affiliate of Summit Medical Company; St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of Chicago, an affiliate of Ancilla Systems and Catholic Health Partners in Chicago, a member of Ascension Health.
Mr. Garvey received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Western Illinois University and a master's degree in business administration from DePaul University in 2003. Mr. Garvey is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Bruce McNulty, M.D.
Vice President/Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Bruce McNulty is the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Swedish Hospital. His duties included Swedish Medical Group, Medical Education, Medical Informatics and Quality. He previously served as Chairman of Emergency Medicine, President of Swedish Emergency Associates and Board Member of Swedish Hospital, as well as currently serving on the Swedish Hospital Foundation Board.
Prior to joining the medical staff of Swedish Hospital in 2001, Dr. McNulty served as Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Ravenswood Hospital and Emergency Medicine Medical Director for the Neurological and Orthopedic Institute of Chicago. He has held leadership roles at Swedish Hospital for more than 10 years.
Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer
Kathy Donofrio is the Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Swedish Hospital where she began her nursing career in the Cardiology Department. She previously served as Associate Vice President of Nursing and Director of Cardiovascular Services and Women’s Health and has held leadership roles at Swedish Hospital for more than 18 years.
Kathy has a doctoral degree in nursing practice from Rush University and an MBA in management from Northeastern Illinois University. She is an ANCC board-certified Nurse Executive-Advanced and a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau.
Vice President of Operations/Chief Safety Officer
Saliba Kokaly is the Vice President of Operations and Chief Safety Officer at Swedish Hospital. He is responsible for the non-nursing patient care areas and support services. Saliba has held different leadership roles at Swedish Hospital for 27 years.
Outside his role at Swedish Hospital, Saliba is a Life Safety Surveyor/Accreditation Consultant for HFAP and AAHHS. He actively participates in the Healthcare Engineering Society of Northern Illinois (HESNI) and the Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA) Safety and Emergency Preparedness Program. Saliba is currently serving on North Park University (NPU) School of Business & Nonprofit Management’s Advisory Board and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).
Mr. Kokaly received a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Southern Illinois University and an MBA in international business from North Park University.
Vice President of Quality Assurance
Janis Anderson Rueping is the Vice President of Quality Improvement and Risk Management and administratively oversees patient safety, the medical staff office, infection control, pastoral care, interpretive services, clinical ethics and the Foundation-funded Artist-in-Residence Program. Ms. Rueping has been a member of the leadership team at Swedish Hospital for more than 20 years, and has been with the organization for 40-plus years. Janis holds an undergraduate degree from North Park College and a master’s degree in nonprofit administration from North Park University.
Vice President of Information Systems/Chief Information Officer
Karen Sheehan is the Vice President of Information Systems and Chief Information Officer at Swedish Hospital. Karen has led the Information Systems Department and Health Information Management since 2002 . She has been instrumental in the adoption of a fully electronic medical record system. Karen’s clinical background as a registered nurse has influenced her focus on the use of technology to improve patient safety and quality outcomes. Karen received her BSN from Marquette University and her degree in Healthcare Informatics from the University of Bath. Karen has been in various leadership roles at Swedish Covenant Health for 30 years.
Dr. Shameen Abbasy
Vice President, Quality, Safety and Patient Experience
Shameem Abbasy received her medical degree from Rush University Medical College and a Master of Public Health from University of Michigan. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. She went on to complete a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery from Loyola University Medical Center. She has been on staff at Swedish Hospital since 2010. She serves as the medical director of Swedish Medical Group and is the hospital’s VP of Quality, Safety and Patient Experience.
She grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and currently resides in Chicago’s Northside with her husband and two children.

Dr. Finkelstein received his medical degree from the University of Virginia, and he completed his residency and fellowship at Northwestern University McGaw Medical Center. He has been in practice for more than 19 years.
Jeffrey C. Cilley, M.D. | Oncology
Dr. Cilley earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington D.C. and completed his residency at Northwestern University McGaw Medical Center. He has practiced for more than 10 years.
Matthew Meadows, M.D. | Urology
Dr. Meadows attended medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Georgetown University Hospital. He has more than 15 years of experience and speaks English and Spanish.
