We are extremely honored and proud to announce that Swedish Hospital has attained Magnet Recognition for the third time, a testament to the continued dedication of our excellent nursing practice and interdisciplinary teams.
The Magnet Recognition Program
designates organizations worldwide where nursing leaders successfully align their nursing strategic goals to improve the organization's patient outcomes. The Program provides a roadmap to nursing excellence, which benefits the entire organization.
Magnet Recognition reflects our commitment to delivering the highest quality of care to our community and we would like to recognize and congratulate every nurse at Swedish Hospital as each and every one deserves deep respect and admiration for their teamwork, their ongoing commitment to quality and most of all, for putting our patients at the center of all they do.
Research demonstrates that Magnet recognition provides specific benefits to health care organizations and their communities, such as:
- Higher patient satisfaction with nurse communication, availability of help and receipt of discharge information.
- Lower risk of 30-day mortality and lower failure to rescue rates.
- Higher job satisfaction among nurses.
- Lower nurse reports of intentions to leave their positions.
Magnet recognition is the gold standard for nursing excellence and is a factor when the public judges health care organizations. U.S. News & World Report
’s annual showcase of “America’s Best Hospitals” includes Magnet recognition in its ranking criteria for quality of inpatient care.
To achieve Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff. This process includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit, and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition.
We are pleased that NorthShore legacy and Northwest Community Hospital have also received Magnet Recognition. There are 548 Magnet facilities worldwide and 38 in Illinois.
