Horticultural Therapy

Imagine planting a seed in the ground; gently pressing dirt around it and sprinkling water on the soil. Through your care and nurturing, you watch that seed sprout into new life and grow with each additional day.

This idea of working with living objects has found its roots at Swedish Covenant Hospital in our Horticultural Therapy program—what better parallel could we find for the healing and strengthening process of rehabilitation?

Thanks to the support of the Chicago Botanic Garden, the program takes a unique approach to rehabilitation by using plants and gardening to improve your body, mind and spirit. Soon you'll be so focused on helping your plant grow that you'll forget you're spending time at a hospital!

And now everyone can enjoy the fruits of your labor, as this therapy takes place during warm months in our Garden of Compassion, prominently located in front of Anderson Pavilion.
