Animal-Assisted Therapy

Did you know that petting animals can actually lower your blood pressure? Then it's no surprise that working with trained animals for rehabilitation and therapy can benefit you in some pretty significant, healing ways.

Our animal-assisted therapy program for our Rehabilitation Services patients is held thanks to our partnership with the Chenny Troupe of Chicago. It has developed from a trial run in the spring to a full-fledged program that has held weekly sessions since September 2006.

In animal-assisted therapy, you work with trained dogs as part of your therapy – brushing them, playing and throwing balls, practicing hand commands and holding hoops for the dogs to jump through. At the end of the session, you probably will have forgotten that this was therapy in the first place!

Our weekly sessions are held on Thursdays at 6:30pm. Ask your caregiver to be a part of this unique program.
