A Leader in Safety

With the safety of our patients and our staff as our top priority, Swedish Hospital is operating under comprehensive enhanced safety protocols. With these measures in place, we provide a comfortable and safe environment for our patients, physicians, nurses and hospital staff.

Nationally Recognized for Patient Safety

Swedish Hospital received an “A” grade for Spring 2020 from The Leapfrog Group, a national organization that focuses on quality and safety in American health care. This national recognition is a sign of our daily commitment to providing our community with excellent patient outcomes, and is a valuable indicator for patients looking for a safe place to receive care.

Visitor Masking Policy

Amid an increase in respiratory illness transmissions and guidance by the Illinois Department of Public Health, we are updating our masking policy to protect our most vulnerable patients:

  • We require patients and visitors to mask when experiencing respiratory virus symptoms.
  • We strongly recommend patients to mask when they are seeking care in high-risk areas*, and other individuals to mask when they are visiting patients in high-risk areas*.
  • We kindly ask visitors who are sick to please reschedule visits.

*High risk areas include all areas within our inpatient medical centers (i.e. inpatient units, ICUs, procedural areas, labor & delivery), emergency departments and cancer centers. If you are unsure, please ask.

Comprehensive Safety Protocols in Place

Enhanced safety measures are in place, including:

    Hand-Hygiene

    Hand Hygiene

We have hand sanitizer and sterilizing foot mats available at all entrances and exits and are asking patients to wash their hands with soap and water as you arrive at your provider’s office.

    Physical Distancing

    Physical Distancing

We’ve reconfigured waiting rooms and physically marked places to stand in public areas, including elevators, to promote social distancing.

    Enhanced-Cleaning

    Enhanced Hospital Cleaning

All patient care areas are regularly and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected in accordance with CDC standards. Enhanced cleaning procedures are in place for high traffic areas, including waiting and exam rooms. Shoe sanitizing floor mats have been installed at entrances to deliver sanitizer to the bottoms of footwear.

    Visiting-Policy

    Visitor Restrictions

To prioritize the health of patients and staff, our visitor restrictions are based on current rates of COVID infection and ED visits/hospitalizations for influenza-like illness in the community.

    Limiting-In-Person-Contact

    Limited In-Person Contact

We’re limiting person-to-person contact by preregistering patients, verifying demographics and insurance and collecting co-payments over the phone the night before your appointment. We're also staggering patient appointments to limit patient-to-patient interactions.

And by scheduling primary and specialty care appointments as virtual visits whenever possible, you can often see your doctor from the comfort of home.
