Since Anthony joined the executive staff in 1996, Swedish Covenant Hospital has become the largest and most successful independent community hospital on Chicago’s north side, with a well-deserved reputation of technological and teaching excellence, compassion and growth. Under his management, the hospital has received consistent recognition as a leader in patient safety from the Leapfrog Group and sustained Magnet Recognition for nursing excellence since 2010.

Anthony is an accomplished senior-level hospital executive with 30 years of proven innovative health care management experience. In addition to his responsibilities at Swedish Covenant Hospital, Anthony is a Board Member of Upper Midwest VHA, a Chairman of the Economic Steering Committee at Upper Midwest VHA and a LLC Board Member/Past President of the Therapy Institute.

Anthony received a master’s degree in business from North Park University. He completed his bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Eastern Illinois University.

Chief Operating Officer

Jonathan began working at the hospital's affiliated Galter LifeCenter in 1999 before starting at Swedish Covenant Hospital in 2006. During this time, he provided the hospital with excellent leadership in managing a variety of business units, personnel and projects. 

Jonathan has more than 15 years of experience in operations, financial management, project management and strategic planning. He completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Dartmouth College and received his MBA in finance and economics at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

Chief Financial Officer

Tom joined Swedish Covenant Hospital in 2013 as Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Garvey previously served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago. Mr. Garvey has 37 years of health care financial experience, 25 of which were spent as Chief Financial Officer for not-for-profit hospitals, for-profit hospitals and multi-hospital systems located in Chicago. 

Previous experience includes the Health Care Consulting Group of Deloitte and Touche and the health care audit staff for Ernst & Young.  His hospital experience includes Vice President of Finance positions at Lincoln West Hospital in Chicago, an affiliate of Summit Medical Company; St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of Chicago, an affiliate of Ancilla Systems and Catholic Health Partners in Chicago, a member of Ascension Health.   

Mr. Garvey received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Western Illinois University and a master's degree in business administration from DePaul University in 2003.  Mr. Garvey is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Vice President/Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Bruce McNulty is the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Swedish Covenant Hospital. His duties included Medical Education, Medical Informatics and Quality. He previously served as Chairman of Emergency Medicine, President of Swedish Emergency Associates and Board Member of Swedish Covenant Hospital, as well as currently serving on the Swedish Covenant Foundation Board. 

Prior to joining the medical staff of Swedish Covenant Hospital in 2001, Dr. McNulty served  as Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Ravenswood Hospital and Emergency Medicine Medical Director for the Neurological and Orthopedic Institute of Chicago. He has held leadership roles at Swedish Covenant Hospital for more than 10 years.

Vice President of Swedish Covenant Medical Group

Kathryn Heneghan is the Vice President of Swedish Covenant Medical Group (SCMG), a 150-plus physician/provider, multispecialty group practice.  She is responsible for the overall operations of the medical group including network development, communication and implementation of growth strategies and process improvement for the medical group and its associated service lines.  Kathryn has over 30 years of industry experience in both clinical and business-related roles.  

Kathryn joined the hospital management team in 1994 as the finance manager for the Community Health Services Division.  Over the past 23 years, she has held various management and leadership positions in community health, marketing, public relations and medical group management.  Prior to joining Swedish Covenant Hospital, Kathy has held leadership roles in strategic planning, practice management, consulting and public accounting.  Kathryn holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from DePaul University and was previously a Certified Public Accountant.

Patricia King is the Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Legal Counsel at Swedish Covenant Hospital. Ms. King previously served as Associate General Counsel. She has held leadership roles at Swedish Covenant Hospital for more than 14 years and has over 30 years of experience in hospital law departments.

Judith A. Borenstein, JD, is the Vice President of Operations for Swedish Covenant Insurance Company, the hospital’s captive insurance company, and Associate General Counsel at Swedish Covenant Hospital. Ms. Borenstein previously served as the Vice President and General Counsel of Swedish Covenant Hospital.  She has held leadership roles at Swedish Covenant Hospital for more than 30 years.

Kathy Donofrio is the Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Swedish Covenant Hospital where she began her nursing career in the Cardiology Department.  Kathy is proud to work at an organization that has been awarded Magnet® status for nursing excellence and is committed to maintaining this prestigious recognition in her role as Chief Nursing Officer.  She previously served as Associate Vice President of Nursing and Director of Cardiovascular Services and Women’s Health and has held leadership roles at Swedish Covenant Hospital for more than 18 years. 

Kathy has a doctoral degree in nursing practice from Rush University and an MBA in management from Northeastern Illinois University.  She is an ANCC board-certified Nurse Executive-Advanced and a member of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau.

Vice President of Operations

Saliba Kokaly is the Vice President of Operations and Chief Safety Officer at Swedish Covenant Hospital. He is responsible for the non-nursing patient care areas and support services. Saliba has held different leadership roles at Swedish Covenant Hospital for more than 25 years. 

Outside his role at SCH, Saliba is a Life Safety Surveyor/Accreditation Consultant for HFAP and AAHHS. He actively participates in the Healthcare Engineering Society of Northern Illinois (HESNI) and the Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA) Emergency Preparedness Program. Saliba is currently serving on North Park University (NPU) School of Business & Nonprofit Management’s Advisory Board and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Mr. Kokaly received a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Southern Illinois University and an MBA in international business from North Park University.




Rueping, JaniceJanis Rueping
Vice President of Quality Assurance

Janis Anderson Rueping is the Vice President of Quality Improvement and Risk Management and administratively oversees patient safety, the medical staff office, infection control, pastoral care, interpretive services, clinical ethics and the Foundation-funded Artist-in-Residence Program.  Ms. Rueping has been a member of the leadership team at Swedish Covenant Hospital for more than 20 years, and has been with the hospital for 40-plus years.  Janis holds an undergraduate degree from North Park College and a master’s degree in nonprofit administration from North Park University.

Adam Finkelstein, M.D., Diagnostic Radiology

Dr. Finkelstein received his medical degree from the University of Virginia, and he completed his residency and fellowship at Northwestern University McGaw Medical Center. He has been in practice for more than 19 years.

Jeffrey C. Cilley, M.D., Oncology

Dr. Cilley earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington D.C. and completed his residency at Northwestern University McGaw Medical Center. He has practiced for more than 10 years.

Dr. Humayun attended medical school at Osmania Medical College in India and completed his residency at Medical College of Ohio Hospital. He has more than 18 years of experience and speaks English and Hindi..
