Pediatric Echocardiograms & Tele-medicine
Swedish Covenant Hospital offers pediatric patients echocardiograms, or heart ultrasounds. This diagnostic test gives our pediatric cardiologists and family medicine physicians a live image of a child's heart to help determine how the heart is functioning and identify any possible defects or complications. No radiation is involved in this test, and it is routinely performed on infants, children and adults.
Pediatric echocardiograms at Swedish Covenant Hospital are administered through a tele-medicine partnership with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. During every pediatric echocardiogram at Swedish Covenant Hospital, cardiologist from Lurie Children’s are tuned in through video on tele-medicine technology so they can consult with physicians and pediatric sonographers at Swedish Covenant Hospital before, during and after the test.
The patient can then be cared for in-house at Swedish Covenant Hospital, or in advanced care cases be immediately transferred to Lurie Children’s.
