We use benchmarks, like the performance outcomes below, to measure the impact and effectiveness of the Swedish Covenant Hospital Pain Center on your health. These measures may also give you an idea of the kinds of outcomes tha many of our patients experience at the Pain Center.
Within 3 visits to the Pain Center, 75% of our patients report an average of:
- 57% decrease in pain
- 58% increase in home activity
- 48% increase in active physical activity
- 57% improvement in self-care activity
- 54% improvement in sleep disturbed due to pain

The following results were obtained from 163 patients from 2006 to July 2007. In the following measurements, 10 is rated as "total disability" and 0 as "no disability." These outcomes are measured based on the Patient Disability Scale (PDS-Lofland 1998) in the following areas: pain scale, home activities, active physical activities, self care and sleep.
Pain Scale
In 3 visits, 42% of patients reported a decrease in pain from an 8 to a 5.
The pain scale is a universally used ranking system for pain. The scale describes the intensity of your pain from 0 (no pain) to 10 (worst possible pain).
Home Activities
In 3 visits, 47% of patients reported a decrease in disability when performing home activities from a 7 to a 4.
Active Physical Activity
In 3 visits, 43% of patients reported a decrease in disability when doing active physical activity from a 9 to a 5.
Self-Care
In 3 visits, 50% of patients reported a decrease in disability when doing self-care from a 4 to a 2.
Sleep
In 3 visits, 42% of patients reported a decrease in disability when sleeping from a 7 to a 4.
