Great quality of life means different things to different people. For many, it means spending time with family; being outdoors enjoying a round of golf, a bicycle ride or, the pleasure of a simple walk. No matter what your definition, being able to walk and move without pain is an important part of living well. And, as we age, doing the things we love to do without pain often becomes more and more challenging.

Arthritis affects about 40 millions Americans, or one in eight people. Orthopedic surgeons know the ways in which arthritis attacks joints and the ways in which this disease robs people of mobility and independence. Orthopedic surgeons devote their practice to help people learn how to better combat the effects of arthritis and help people revitalize their quality of life.

Total joint replacement is a procedure in which a prosthetic joint is surgically implanted in place of an arthritic one — and is one of the most effective ways to reduce pain and restore mobility for arthritis sufferers.

The Total Joint Program at Swedish Covenant Hospital uses a team approach that brings together a combined expertise of several health care providers. The team is comprised of surgeons, primary care physicians, nurses, therapists and the orthopedic navigator who works closely with each patient to individualize their plan of care that will minimize the time spent in the hospital and will optimize the quality of the care.

With extensive patient education and a comprehensive continuum of care, our program is designed to ensure that patients have the information, care and support they need every step of the way.
