Swedish Covenant Midwifery Group Named Only “Triple Aim” Best Practice Group in Illinois

The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) recently designated Swedish Covenant Midwifery Group an ACNM Best Practice facility for “Triple Aim” achievement. To earn “Triple Aim” Best Practice, Swedish Covenant Hospital achieved an average primary cesarean birth rate of less than 23.9%, preterm birth rate of less than 11.4% and an exclusive breastfeeding rate within the first 48 hours of more than 81%. The SCMG Midwifery Group was the only midwifery group in Illinois to earn the distinction.

Swedish Covenant Hospital Completes Successful High-Risk Angioplasty Procedure Using State-of-the-Art Mini-Heart Pump

Swedish Covenant Hospital is proud to have completed a new state-of-the-art angioplasty procedure led by Steve Attanasio, D.O., FACC, FSCAI. The procedure utilizes a leading-edge mini-heart pump called the Impella percutaneous left ventricular assist device (LVAD), inserted into the heart through a minimally invasive needle puncture in the groin. The pump, which was recently approved by the FDA for high-risk angioplasty and cardiogenic shock, regulates blood pressure and blood flow, bypassing some of the risks associated with performing conventional angioplasty in patients with complex coronary artery disease (CAD) and congestive heart failure.

Swedish Covenant Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to providing the most effective stroke treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

Swedish Covenant Hospital Announces New CenteringPregnancy® Program

Swedish Covenant Hospital’s Nurse-Midwifery group recently announced the launch of a CenteringPregnancy program. The CenteringPregnancy program brings together groups of women to discuss important topics, including current or expected discomforts, stress and anxiety, proper nutrition, labor and delivery and breastfeeding. The program exceeds the recommended standard of 10 prenatal visits by extending the sessions from an hour and a half to two hours in length.
