Volunteer Opportunities

Swedish Covenant Hospital welcomes community members to join our volunteer staff, which performs a wide variety of services within the hospital.

To create an all-around positive experience, patient and hospital needs are matched as closely as possible to the individual volunteer, accommodating personal schedules and interests.

The hospital offers fulfilling opportunities to give back to the community in such areas as:

Emergency Department

Requirement: At least 18 years old
Provide support to Emergency Department staff and patients' family and friends, assist nurses as directed. May visit waiting patients in examining rooms to lend support and provide non-medical information.

Occupational Therapy

Assist with the maintenance of patient care materials, perform routine errands within the hospital, transport patients back to their rooms or to other areas of the hospital.

Patient Care Unit

Provide indirect patient care services such as: offering patient support, providing water and meal trays, transporting patients to various locations within the hospital, making unoccupied beds.

Patient Visitor - Korean And Russian Community

Communicate with patient in his/her native language, provide patient support when needed, act as liaison between patients and health care staff.

Perianesthesia Care Unit

Distribute juice and coffee trays to post-op patients, transport or escort stable patients to various locations within the hospital, assist CNA/technician in cleaning and stocking.

Psychiatric Unit
Requirements: At least 18 years old and psychology background

Engage patients and family in conversation, perform clerical tasks, which include photo copying, organizing, routine errands and other clerical duties.

Central Service

Help examine, fold and package surgical towels, package instruments for sterilization, transport patient care equipment from main building to Galter Medical Pavilion building.

Central Transportation

Assist in transporting patients between Patient Care Units and ancillary departments, deliver equipment and supplies, retrieve wheelchairs and carts.

Child Care Center

Supervise children during outdoor/indoor play time according to Montessori philosophy and city and state guidelines, interact with, and serve snack to children.

Clerical

Assist in preparation or distribution of mail, copy and/or file departmental materials, deliver and/or collect department materials at other hospital locations, collate charts or other informational materials.

Floater

Fulfill various volunteer positions as assigned according to hospital needs, duties are assigned by the Director of Volunteer Resources or designee.

Gift Shop

Demonstrate excellent customer service and sales skill, assist with cash register transactions, assist with merchandising items, displays, and routine maintenance.

Lobby Services

Assist with greeting, screening and directing all persons entering the hospital, answer telephone calls regarding patient information, communicate hospital policies and procedures information.

Materials Services

Assist with paper work, filing, cleaning, sorting, delivery of incoming goods, and bringing "return goods" from departments to Shipping and Receiving.

Medical Library

Specific duties will be determined by the medical librarian. These duties may include: acting as a receptionist, copying and/or file departmental materials, and data entry.

Newspaper Delivery

Offer newspapers, magazines or books to patients in the patient care units and waiting areas, replace and remove old magazines when necessary.

Pharmacy Department
Requirements: At least 18 years old and pharmacy technician license

Assist personnel in transporting "stat" medications to patient care unit for patient, sort returned medications, audit inventory for out-dates.
