History
Founded in 1886, Swedish Covenant Hospital serves the medical needs of Chicago's north and northwest sides, providing: emergency services, a full range of inpatient and outpatient medical services, home care, family medicine, occupational health, wellness/fitness programs and health education for the community.
Our 334-bed nonprofit medical center was founded by The Evangelical Covenant Church. Swedish Covenant's mission emphasizes care for the whole person's needs—biological, psychological, social and spiritual. The hospital is known for its high-quality nursing, convenient location and personal atmosphere. Our more than 550 primary care and specialist physicians, 2,200 employees and 250 volunteers are committed to serving your healthcare needs.
Faculty
Faculty are available for Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Psychiatry, most of the major subspecialties and Allied Health Services.
Training
Our Family Medicine Residency Program is the second oldest residency training program in the city of Chicago, dual-accredited by ACGME and AOA. Throughout the three years of training at Swedish Covenant Hospital you will receive maximum learning and patient management opportunities in the community hospital setting.
You will work in the 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art Family Practice Center, an outpatient facility built in 1997. The center is complete with waiting and reception area, nurses stations, consulting and examining rooms, minor surgery, lab, conference room, and offices for directors, supervisors and family counselors.

Night Call Schedule
All calls are in-house. A first year Family Practice Resident is on call an average of 5-6 times per month. A second year Family Practice Resident is on call an average of 4-5 times per month. A third year Family Practice Resident is on call an average of 3 times per month.

Residents can also take advantage of The James and Suzanne McCormick Montessori Child Care Center at Swedish Covenant Hospital offers daycare for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. The Child Care Center is the only Montessori hospital-based program in the United States.

Swedish Covenant Hospital does not offer Visa Support. All applications must be submitted through ERAS online system. Swedish Covenant Hospital requires these documents to be considered:
- NBOME scores
- Three Letters of Recommendation
- Copy of the Dean’s Letter
- Official Medical School Transcripts
