I have been a staff member at Swedish Covenant Hospital for the past five years. I started my career at Swedish working as a Unit Secretary on the weekends while I was in nursing school. I chose to work at Swedish for the professional advancement opportunities.
During my career at Swedish, I serve as a staff nurse, and a resource nurse sharing my knowledge and assisting others. I have completed classes to prepare for the pediatric nurse certification and I am PALS certified. I am a member of the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses. Recently I participated in a Bone Marrow Donation Drive held in the local community. This drive was used to help raise awareness to the public about the importance and need of bone marrow donation.
To me the Magnet Journey symbolizes an opportunity to improve the quality of nursing and provides professional development opportunities for staff. It is important for me to work for magnet hospital because a magnet hospital empowers its nurses through professional advancement and educational development. This in turn leads to the improvement in the quality of health care provided to the patients.
Swedish Covenant Hospital is known for providing health care to a culturally diverse patient population, there are many services at our hospital that accommodate their cultural needs. For example, Swedish has a healing garden and chapel, where patients, families, and employees can go to free their mind. My favorite part of working for Swedish is that I have the opportunity to work with a great group of people, who provide the best service to our patients and are making valuable changes to improve the quality of care we provide our patients.
